As an installation artist and fabricator, I am largely self taught. I use my ideas and concepts as inspiration to experiment with new materials and learn new disciplines. It was this practice that inspired me to make my first 3-D bird out of paper 11 years ago for the creation of what was to become my first public art installation (with a live performance) and subsequent photograph entitled Ceiling of Black Birds, presented as part of Flux Night 2012. Since then, I have made thousands of paper birds. I have even created a temporary art project for the Atlanta Beltline (2014) with 365 paper birds swirling in a hand-cranked tornado to call attention to the homeless pet issue in Atlanta. As the birds grew in popularity, I began to experiment with making different species and incorporate new and different materials as well, so that the birds would be sturdier and could “live” outside, without cover, for long periods of time. At this point, I have created flocks for numerous outdoor public art events and have developed a solid technique. Following are just a small selection. You can view many more in the Site Specific Installations section above.
I make commissions! Please message/email me if you would like information on commissioning a wood veneer or paper bird. You can also check out my etsy shop for more details:
